NATURAL STONE VENEERS INTERNATIONAL, INC.
Technology and Professional Innovation
Those are the words of Dennis Buechel, President of Natural Stone Veneers International, Inc.® They not only express a belief which brought about the inception of NSVI™, but they continue to hold true as the business continues to grow.
The corporate seats held by Dennis Buechel (President), his wife Renee (Secretary and Treasurer) and sons Joe and Jason Buechel (Vice Presidents) are hard earned and long in coming. After years in a small family stone business, Dennis took the experience he gained in all phases of the quarrying business plus knowledge in the fields of management, marketing and equipment design and broke away on a new venture. His plan? To create a natural stone veneer product which would be lighter, easier to install and ultimately less costly than traditional stone facings. The first step was to design and build equipment to create such a product since nothing in the stone industry could come close to producing a thin veneer. In 2002, the company opened its doors as Natural Stone Veneers International LLC in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. By 2004, Dennis was awarded a patent for the unique machinery he designed to cut natural stone into slices of 1 to 1-1⁄2 inches in thickness, and the growth of the company — now Natural Stone Veneers International, Inc. — has never stopped gaining momentum.
NSVI’s Fond du Lac location, once a rented facility accommodating 8 employees, is now a 12 acre campus under full ownership of NSVI™. On the grounds are housed sales, production and storage areas. A second NSVI™ production facility operates out of Bulgaria. Its products are exported to the United States, further expanding the available product line. Over 60 standard products are currently available, and are marketed through a network of distributors throughout the United States.
Beautiful, durable natural stone veneer, however, is not the only innovation to arise from NSVI. Recyclable packaging was created in 2003 which allows the stone veneer to ship safely. It resists the elements, can last through many uses and has become a standard in the stone industry.
Many milestones stand out in the NSVI™ legacy, from the Cornerstone Award presented to Dennis Buechel by the Home Builders Association of Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties in 2003 to their participation in the Angels Among Us program in Nebraska where NSVI™ stone veneer was a key element in a feature home erected and eventually sold to aid a charity for children battling cancer, to having their products and services featured on television and cable programs such as Designing Spaces and This Old House. In 2007, NSVI™ designed a 60 minute continuing educational program for architects and designers titled “The Nature of Natural Thin Veneer” which was accredited by the American Institute of Architects. The class is presented to several thousand architects and designers each year.
With over 130 years of combined experience in the fields of quarrying, marketing, geology and accounting, the Buechel family has turned talent and dedication into a moving force in the stone industry.
